The stars rearrange themselves into the Mask of Shadows in the epilogue.

Spoiler#6: Teridax's grand plan - revealed! He takes over Mata Nui's body as he awakens, giving him Mata Nui's powers as the universe and his mind. He causes Mata Nui's spirit to be trapped in the Ignika and simultaneously banishes it from the universe. There, the book ends as the Ignika with Mata Nui's spirit thinks "I will return."

The Phantoka Makuta:
As he followed the Toa into the Codrex, Antroz could survive without Radiak as he used his sense of hearing to listen for the Toa and then used the Jetrax as his eyes.
The rest of the Makuta really couldn't survive well, they were considerably weakened. For example, Icarax knocks Gavla off of Vamprah's back and Vamprah becomes simply prey instead of the predator.

Toa Ignika tried to kill Tahu when Tahu told him that the way to awaken Mata Nui was for the Ignika to initiate a surge of life, sort of like a nova blast, I guess. This power would awaken Mata Nui but leave Toa Ignika as a mask without a body. Toa Ignika did not take this well and started to attack Tahu with his powerful powers of life.
Also, Mata Nui is the universe, which Teridax proclaimed.
So is Ignika-Mata Nui the/on of the recurring character/s in 2009?
How does the ending exactly go in to the new direction of 2009?

Maybe. It doesn't exactly say where the Ignika/Mata Nui is going. But it did think "I will return," so probably.
So, the ending might go into 2009 with the "I will return..." or how Makuta took over the universe, or Mata Nui. This new, great problem has yet to be solved, so it will probably be resolved in 2009.

Icarax knocked Gavla off Vamprah's back as they were fighting. They were in battle because Icarax was attempting to ruin the plan by killing all of the Toa Nuva and destroying the Codrex. This was because he wanted to be the leader, which means coming up with a better plan with the current one, which also means that the current one could not be allowed to succeed.
So, what exactly happened with Icarax? Did he betray the BoM, or what?
What exactly is the method for awakening Mata Nui? How did the Toa do it?
And what were the horrible memories Tahu remembered? Which Toa did he share it with?
oh gosh....mata nui inside ignika and banished from the universe? then that means.....the hagah failed..... (dwellers in darkness)
rip krika and the rest. and the order of mata nui is in big trouble....oh gosh. and toa ignika is stubborn.

Icarax betrayed Teridax and the plan because he wanted to be the leader. He eventually hoped to rule the other Makuta, but I guess that if they were on Teridax's side, he betrayed them too. Krika also helped him attempt to destroy the plan.

As seen in Swamp of Secrets, Tahu remembered how he was forced to keep the canisters and the Codrex secret from the rest of the Toa and also the energy storm.
He shared these memories with Gali, who pretty much just forgave him for his actions, saying that she might have done the same.

I think that Mata Nui was awakened as Toa Ignika unleashed his full powers of life and gave up his body.
P.S. Yeah, I guess that the Toa Hagah failed. I wonder how the serial ends...maybe something tragic happens to them. It doesn't say much about the Order of Mata Nui in Final Battle, so maybe they're only in Destiny War.

Krika died as he attempted to warn Gorast of the energy storm soon to plague Karda Nui.
Icarax died when he was fought against by the several other Makuta in Karda Nui as he tried to wreck the Plan.
All of the other Makuta were killed by the huge energy storm that occured as Mata Nui was awakened by the Ignika.

The Toa Nuva returned to Metru Nui with the vehicles and witnessed the realigning of the stars and the rising of Teridax. However, the book was cut off there, which presumably is the leading into
2009.

I am disappointed with this ending. I really hope they sum this up in 09. I freakin' hate cliff-hangers.

Gorast kills Krika by distrupting Krika's powers turning him from intangible to nothing. Poor Krika.
Also, I hope Mata Nui uses the Ignika's powers to create a body in the Glatorian Universe. And if you're wondering where I got that. I asked Greg about and he said Mata Nui can use the Ignika's power.
I really didn't expect this turn of events. So Teradix basically IS the universe right now? What about the Makuta on the surface? Are they still alive?
So Krika is killed by Gorast for helping Icarax, Icarax is slayed in battle by his fellow Makuta, and then all of the Makuta are killed by The Storm?
Did Mata Nui get any lines of his own, or was it just Ignika's thoughts?
So, what happens to Gavla? She gets cured, but then what? Does anything significant happen to her during the book, apart from being knocked off Vultraz?
So basically- Antroz, Chirox, Vamprah, Mutran, Gorast and Bitil die from the energy storm right?

I think I understand what Mata-Nui is... An outer-space vessel of sorts.
According to an answer from GregF in his discussion topic on Bzpower on page 180, Mata-Nui wasn't on the planet to begin with. The Great Cataclysm was probably the result of Mata-Nui crashing onto the planet. It also explains why Mata-Ni pretty much need to have the powers of nature (creation, gravity, heat, air to breath etc...) to regulate the domes and inhabitants inside of him. This of course is all speculation, but according to GregF, Bionicle.com is going to reveal whether or not that Mata-Nui = Matoran Universe.

Icarax was killed by Gorast and Vamps because he betrayed them by trying to prevent the plan from happening. He was pretty much disintegrated.
No one in the matoran universe can stop Teridax now. Mata Nui could stop him, but thats why Teridax banished him.

No, the Toa Nuva didn't defeat Teridax...yet. I'm still hoping that they will find a way to, eventually.
